When we are children, emotions will hit us so hard that we feel obliged to express them and act on them.
As we repeat that cycle, we learn emotions are bursts of reactions, most of the time not worth taking them as truths the world needs to realize.
As we grow older, our minds fill with streams of thought (ahem), and we treat them as great ideas everyone should appreciate. As we repeat this cycle, we learn the fleeting nature of thoughts, and realize most of them are better to sleep on.
Repetition and reflection are the mechanics of growth.
